Overview

Dental Ceramist is a skilled dental laboratory professional who designs, builds, and finishes aesthetic and functional ceramic restorations such as crowns, veneers, inlays/onlays, bridges, and implant restorations. The role combines artistic ability, manual dexterity, and knowledge of dental materials and anatomy.


Key Responsibilities

  • Fabricate ceramic dental restorations including crowns, veneers, bridges, and implant-supported prosthetics.

  • Layer, stain, and glaze ceramic materials to achieve lifelike color, translucency, and texture.

  • Interpret prescriptions and digital scans from dentists to create accurate and functional restorations.

  • Use digital dentistry tools such as CAD/CAM software, milling machines, and 3D printers (depends on lab).

  • Adjust contours and occlusion to ensure proper fit, bite, and patient comfort.

  • Select appropriate materials (zirconia, lithium disilicate, porcelain, etc.) based on case requirements.

  • Communicate with dentists and lab technicians regarding design, expectations, and case challenges.

  • Inspect final products for quality assurance and compliance with dental and lab standards.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, tools, and ceramic ovens.

  • Follow safety, infection control, and regulatory protocols.
